Our Customer:

RLH Corporation (RLHC)  is a hotel company based in Denver, Colorado. The company has over 1,100 hotels and supports seven different Property Management Systems (PMS). The group has witnessed exponential growth of its portfolio over the past few years, having expanded from 55 hotels at the end of 2014 to over 1,300 hotels at the end of 2018. Red Lion Hotels was acquired by Sonesta Hotels in 2021.

The  Challenge:

One of the major challenges RLH Corporation faced was the need to connect a variety of PMS systems to a central system in order to drive innovation, break operational silos and allow a true 360-view of their guests that helps deliver a personalized experience. These intergations are cumbersome and costly to achieve, which hindered innovation for the hotel company. The challenge at the corporate level was to efficiently integrate a hotel's various systems and data streams into their corporate framework.

The Solution:

To solve their data management challenges, RLHC deployed Hapi to integrate data from different PMS systems across their portfolio, enrich it, and stream a one data flow, enabling real-time data for optimizing reporting and operational systems.

Hapi is a cloud native, purpose-built, hospitality data integration platform based on open standards and hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. Hapi exposes event streams and transactional APIs from hotel systems at scale. Hotel companies innovate faster by removing integration, development and deployment challenges. Hapi platform is PCI DSS Merchant level 1, Service Provider compliant.

AWS provides a low cost, scalable, and highly reliable global infrastructure platform to businesses who are looking to manage variable costs and replace high upfront infrastructure investments. As a SMB building a new SaaS offering, AWS was selected not only due to the breadth of serverless service offerings, which reduced operating costs, but also because of its development platform’s support for open standards that allowed for bringing products to market quickly, reliably, and securely with broad out-of-box integration capabilities. Hapi is architected on AWS and leverages a multitude of AWS tools to ensure that implementation was in line with the AWS Well-Architected Framework, meaning that the solution was built so that security, reliability, performance efficiency, cost optimization, and operational excellence were and are key facets of the implementation architecture.

The Benefit:

Hapi has helped RLH Corporation make their operations more efficient, deliver an enhanced and more personalized guest experience, and have access to valuable guest data and insights to help drive profitability, efficiency, and guest loyalty.

  • Eliminated the need for costly and time-intensive system integrations between large and small technology vendors.  These integrations can take 12-18 months each to materialize and often come with hefty certification fees.
  • Increased operational efficiency with streamlined API access from many PMS instances, whether on-premise or in the cloud.
  • Redacted operating costs by not reinventing a custom integration for every new PMS instance and hotel combination.
  • Integrated their existing portfolio and brought new hotels online within days as they expanded across North America, allowing for faster ramp up times for future projects as well.
